Immersive Training for Intelligent Systems

The Intelligent Vehicles Institute (IVI) is dedicated to advancing collegiate education and OEM (original equipment manufacturer) training across all domains of intelligent vehicles—whether flying, floating, swimming, or rolling—and including both manned and unmanned systems.

At IVI, interns earn income while fully immersing themselves in hands-on learning experiences that extend far beyond the classroom. After completing their internships, participants may earn one-year fellowships that lead to full-time careers in their field.

This cycle is self-sustaining: Fellows mentor and supervise new interns. Many fellows transition to careers at IVI, with industry partners, or within related fields. Interns become fellows, continuing the cycle.

Through partnerships with colleges, interns and fellows gain academic credit while building valuable real-world skills—benefiting students, manufacturers, educators, and local communities alike.

Strategically Located

Strategically located on the shore of the Gulf of America, the Intelligent Vehicles Training and Resource Center is a fully staffed and equipped facility. The center delivers curriculum on autonomous and remotely operated vehicles through both classroom instruction and real-world field operations—conducted in the water and in the air.

Mission control suites support both line-of-sight and over-the-horizon telemetry, allowing students to conduct live, hands-on operations near the shore, at sea, and within an active commercial port. The surrounding environment—rivers, protected bays, harbors, beaches, shallow marshes, and deep sea—offers an unmatched range of conditions ideal for training, testing, and demonstration.

The facility includes a fully equipped maintenance depot capable of repairing components, modules, and entire vessels. Repair capabilities cover composite structures, electronics, electrical systems, motors, drives, hydraulics, pneumatics, propellers, and thrusters.

Students may find themselves piloting surface vessels, launching aerial drones, diving with underwater vehicles, or managing shore-based command centers. They perform diagnostics, conduct field repairs, and keep autonomous systems mission-ready.

They also build and customize new platforms—from wiring sensor packages and assembling propulsion systems, to integrating software for autonomy, navigation, and data processing. Whether operating, maintaining, or building the next generation of intelligent vehicles, our students learn by doing.
